In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson’s RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. And now, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A reimagining of Puccini's La Bohème, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. With its inspiring message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters—love.
Now playing at the Denver Center for the Performing arts, seats in the first two rows of the orchestra section are available for $20 for every performance of RENT 20th Anniversary Tour November 14 through 21.
The $20 tickets are available for in-person purchases at The Buell box office on the day of each performance only. Two-and-a-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at The Buell Theatre box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for seats in the first two rows of the orchestra at $20 each.
This lottery is only available in-person at The Buell box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets.
The tradition of the $20 tickets began in 1996 in New York when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theatre. The producers of the show are committed to continuing the tradition of offering orchestra seats for $20 in each city the show will play.
The show received its world premiere off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop on February 13, 1996 to ecstatic reviews and transferred to Broadway on April 29, 1996. RENT is winner of the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It is one of only five musicals to win both awards.
The RENT 20th Anniversary Tour plays The Buell Theatre November 14-21. Tickets are on sale now at denvercenter.org. Please be advised that the Denver Center for the Performing Arts – denvercenter.org – is the ONLY authorized ticket provider for RENT in Denver. Ticket buyers who purchase tickets from a ticket broker or any third party should be aware that DCPA is unable to reprint or replace lost or stolen tickets and is unable to contact patrons with information regarding time changes or other pertinent updates regarding the performance.
