Q&A with Plum Consignment Owner Crystal Stephen
Q: Tell us about your business.
A: Plum is a locally grown and operated modern consignment boutique in Stapleton featuring curated clothing for women and children. Our spin on resale offers shoppers a fashionable way to be earth friendly. PLUM specializes in Nordstrom & Anthropologie brands. We're also known for our designer jeans, girlfriend gifts like jewelry, scarves, Votivo Candles, Papaya Greeting Cards and Lollia Bath & Body products. We were named 5280 Magazine's Top of The Town Consignment Shopafter being in business less than a year!
Q: What distinguishes you from other resale businesses?
A: Definitely our non-traditional consignment experience. There's no more waiting until the end of a 90-day consignment period to get paid – at PLUM you can check your account status on our website anytime for account updates. Consignors receive in-store credit immediately once their items have sold, and checks are paid out monthly upon request. Keeping with our eco-friendly focus, most of our interior décor items have been repurposed into up-cycled displays, providing an urban eclectic edge and hip shopping experience. We handpick each new, ornearly new, item for resale, making our merchandise close to plum perfect for a fraction of the cost of buying it new.
Q: Describe your Style in 3 words:
Casual. Effortless. Eco-friendly.
Q: Why socially conscious fashion?
A: Just doing my part helping out Mother Nature by keeping sustainability in style. Consignment is a great solution for fashion pollution! Plum provides a fashion-forward way to be earth friendly while saving savvy shoppers some green.
Q: If you didn't own a resale shop, what other profession would you choose?
A: Being a consignment enthusiast, I traded my life-long career in corporate restaurant sales & marketing to take on the mission of redefining resale. I love making that happen. Wouldn’t have it any other way ~ I’m lucky like that. Come by and say hi, we love making new friends & meeting fashion forward consignors!
Q: What's your most prized possession?
A: Memories of my Mom, who passed away after a short battle with cancer before Plum was even a business plan. The “mama bird” in my logo treatment is symbolic of her looking over me. Plum is my nod to her. She always said I should start my own business. Mama knows best!
