Middle schools in Stapleton: Swigert-McAuliffe and Smiley

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KURT DENNIS, MCAULIFFE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
As you may have already heard, this week the administration of Denver Public Schools will recommend to the Board of Education the phasing out of Smiley Middle School in Park Hill. Because of Smiley’s proximity to the Stapleton neighborhood and pending space issues at the Swigert-McAuliffe campus, this recommendation has resulted in speculation regarding McAuliffe International School and its future location.

I first want to assure you that there is plenty of space for McAuliffe to remain at its current location in 2013-2014. In terms of long term solutions however, the Smiley campus could potentially create an opportunity to address the space issues that McAuliffe will face beyond 2013.

Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be working with current McAuliffe families to gather their input regarding this issue. We will then be extending opportunities to prospective McAuliffe families to share their feedback as well. Please watch for more information and other ways to participate in this process as we analyze what will work best for our kids.
