Displaying collections

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 Leave a Comment

By nature, we are hunters and gatherers, stalking our prey at the local flea market, garage sale or antique store.  We bring home that perfect treasure to remind us of sunny beaches and travels abroad.  But effectively displaying the stuff we collect is more difficult than acquiring the individual items.  Collections are a great way to express your personal style, and when purposefully displayed, they look like art.  When displaying your collections, consider the following tips for an eye-pleasing collection.
§ Collections often look best if they have a unifying theme – such as material, form or subject.

§ Treasures displayed en masse catch the eye.

§ Keep collections contained within small areas and  grouped together, helping to avoid a cluttered, rather than a collected look.

§ Sort and display by color.
