You probably never expected to see an offer from a bank featuring an account product to appear on a “Deal of the Week” column. Neither did we, actually, but times are changing in the banking industry and no longer can you expect the option of a free checking account at any bank you walk into. For most banks, in order to have monthly service charges waived you must maintain a certain balance, have a direct deposit of at least $500, initiate five transactions per month, maintain a combined daily balance of $5,000 in linked accounts, jump on your right foot for five yards while patting the top of your head six times before your foot hits the ground – well maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.
We all have enough things to worry about during each day and certainly don’t need to think about which is the proper hoop to jump through in order to avoid a charge upwards of $12.00 per month to simply have a checking account. That’s why FirstBank kept its Free Checking Account. No minimum balance, no monthly service charges, no asterisks. One of the last truly free checking accounts. Add in FirstBank’s renowned customer service and you have the Deal of the Week.
