LiveWell Colorado, together with Bike Denver, is hosting Viva Streets (http://about.
LiveWell Colorado and Bike Denver will transform 23rd Avenue between City Park at Colorado Boulevard and Fred Thomas Park in Stapleton into a car-free parkway for all Denverites to enjoy. The event will welcome walkers, bikers, runners, strollers, hoola-hoopers, dancers, paraders, musicians, healthy food purveyors and anyone wanting to play in the streets for the day. It’s a tribute to the power of our city’s streets--to get people moving, to bring neighbors together, and to strengthen Colorado’s healthy, active culture.
- Sunday, August 14th, from 10am – 2pm
- The event will kick off with a bike parade starting at City Park. Neighbors, kids, local dignitaries and active streets enthusiasts will ride their bikes a few blocks east on Montview Boulevard, and then complete the route on 23rd Street into Stapleton.
- The parks at either end of the route will serve as the host site for venues featuring live entertainment, group activities, food purveyors and more. We also anticipate holding events at the park at 23rd and Dexter and on the Kearney Street business district. The event will have a grassroots feel as part of the neighborhood and will be open to all members of community.
- Besides participating in all the on-the-street fun, including face painting, hula-hoops, bike rodeo, food trucks, and Nuggets fun center, kids can participate in the special “family section” of the bike parade.
- Kids should decorate their bikes prior to the parade, fly Stapleton flags if they want to represent the neighborhood, and then will be invited to gather at the back of the parade to follow city and business dignitaries kick off the parade. The group will “ring in” Viva Streets with their bike bells and horns! We suggest that kids and their parents arrive at 23rd and Kearney by 9:45 a.m. to get in place.
