The School Bus
Do I send my boy on the school bus for his first day of kindergarten?
I was thinking we would ease into it. We live too far to walk or bike, so it's either the bus, or I drive him.
He wants to ride on day one. He already has a plan: "I'll sit next to Gabriel, and if he already has a friend, I'll sit with Ethan, and if he already has a friend, I'll sit alone."
(Awwww...)
A friend with 4 kids advised me to set the precedent right away: we ride the bus. Send him on day one. On day two, it will be intimidating because all the kids who rode on day one will have their buddies and know the drill. If you must, follow the bus in your car and walk him to his class. (Oh- and that HUGE box of school supplies I ordered from EduKit arrived, I have to get that to school for him.)
And to add to the choices, Swigert is having a big walk-to-school with the Principal on the first day, from a park, which we would still have to drive to.
What are you doing?
We're walking with the principal, which is a whole other logistical issue. Drive to the park, and then have to walk the .6 mile back to the car? take the stroller for the little one?
he'll do the bus on day two. I'm guessing there will be plenty of newbies on day two - especially since so few of them were bussed last year.
Ditto what Valarie is doing and yes, taking a stroller for our 2.5 yr old. Bus home on day 1, and both ways day 2. Doesn't Edukit go directly to the school? That's where it's always gone in the past and I'm hoping it'll be there for my kids on Thursday!
