Stapleton 3 School has a name: Swigert-McAuliffe International School

Did you read the Front Porch article about the Swigert-McAuliffe International School? It sounds phenomenal. And having toured the school and chatted with Principal Chuck Raisch, I can say I was just as impressed in person as it is on paper. You can download a PDF, or go pick up a copy. Here's what the SUN website has to say: click here.

The highlights: international baccalaureate school - a philosophy layered on top of the current DPS curriculum that is inquiry based and a thematic approach to learning. Singapore Math - teaching fewer math concepts in greater depth and building vertically on them rather than spiralling and repeating. Spanish. Applying to become an Innovation School, allowing it to petition for waivers from district and state policies, so it can choose its own curriculum, hours, calendar, hiring policies.

Don't forget, school applications are due January 31!

Granted, the name does not roll off the tongue easily. But Jack Swigert, the astronaut from East High! Christa McAuliffe, one of the teachers killed on the Space Shuttle Challenger! International to reflect the philosophy/curriculum! Will it be nicknamed Swigert?
