How to join the Stapleton Moms Yahoo! Group

Monday, October 24, 2011 Leave a Comment

**UPDATE - 2014***
Stapleton Moms has moved from the Yahoo group platform to BigTent.  It's been a great move!  In order to join us, find the 'Member Login' box on the right side of our front page.  Click 'Not a member? Join us today!' and you're on your way!

I get lots of questions about the Stapleton Moms Yahoo! Group from folks who are moving here and find this blog. Welcome, all you new folks!

What is the Stapleton Moms Yahoo! Group?
The Stapleton Moms Yahoo! group is an email listserv started in 2006 by a Stapleton mom to help moms connect with other moms. It's a place to find a babysitter or a playdate, to buy or sell baby gear, to get advice on potty training, to get recommendations about our area schools from parents whose kids go there. One caveat: It can be overwhelming. There are nearly 2000 people on the list, and on an average day you'll receive around 75 email messages per day. You can - and should - sign up for the daily digest, rather than individual e-mails. You'll get around 3 digests per day, with 25 messages in each.

How do I join it?
It's easy. Go here to the Stapleton Moms Yahoo! group and click "Join This Group!" Membership requires approval, but messsages do not. The group self regulates itself pretty efficiently.

Do you run the Yahoo! Group?
Nope. I'm a member of it. I get the daily digests and occasionally I write about things on the list, or a hot topic Stapleton Moms are talking about.

Is Stapleton really that great?
It really is. A friend told me at their preschool get-to-know-the-parents night, the teacher had everyone relate a moment of pure joy in their life. One of the dads related how he moved his family to Stapleton and was mowing his lawn for the first time, and became overwhelmed with joy at how quickly his family had been welcomed into this community. "It's OK," my friend said, "We all feel that way." Join the Yahoo! Group and you'll see.

How can I offer my unique and awesome business, products or service to Stapleton Moms?
If you live in Stapleton, you can join the list. If you don't, you can find a friend, client or customer and ask them to recommend you. Or, you can contact me at Liz at stapletonmoms.com and we can chat about other ways to reach moms - I pass along lots of things, or you can advertise on my site, or we can talk about a running a deal just for moms.

Go to "Edit Membership." Look for "Message Delivery." You'll have the option to sign up for individual emails, daily digests, specials only, or just check the web site.

Hello! My name is Dawn and I am a Colorado certified massage therapist and am interested in trying a new idea for moms. I think it would be great to come to a small group of moms with their kids (play dates) and give one mom a massage while the others are watching the children and rotate until all the moms have had a massage. Any comments or ideas? Would moms be interested in this? My rate would be lower than most individual massages because of the guarantee of more than one massage. I look forward to your ideas and suggestions. Thanks!

Little britches nanny agency is horrible! Do not use them. They are unprofessional, do not follow through, and do not return phone calls or emails.

School Bus Safety. Dear Stapleton Moms. This morning (Monday, 2/13), I yet again witnessed a driver in our neighborhood race past a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop sign out. A driver pulled out of parking space in front of her house and drove right past the bus. For those of you unfamiliar with the laws in Colorado, the means STOP. You MUST wait until the bus driver turns off the red lights and determines it is safe to proceed before you may proceed pass the bus. It is incredibly disheartening to see this happening ALL THE TIME in our neighborhood filled with kids. My kids catch the bus to Polaris from Westerly Creek. This morning's incident was even more appalling because the driver was a mom who lives across from Westerly Creek and whose children catch a bus from Westerly Creek to Swigert. I was SHOCKED that another mom, especially one whose kids also rie the bus, would so endanger others' kids by ignoring a school bus stop sign in this manner. Sadly, this seems to happen at least once a week, if not more, at our bus stop. I have contacted the Denver Police Department in our district to request extra patrols, but, really, this shouldn't be necessary. Let's watch out for each others' kids on busy school mornings, follow all traffic laws, and ensure our kids our safe. Thank you.

Hi! I am moving to Stapleton this month and I have applied for the BigTent group but my membership hasn't been approved. I was hoping to find a babysitter for my 9-month old while we unpack this week...

I am trying to re-connect to Stapleton Mom. Not sure why I can't reconnect has it moved again. Can you offer some assistance? Where is this BigTent group now. The link on your website still takes you to a Yahoo group.
