The Stapleton CEC has a survey about the third school for us all to take by Wednesday, December 15.

The survey asks out input on (a)whether to make the school elementary only, or K-8, and (b) whether to leave all three schools as choice schools, or draw the boundaries. Where you live will determine which school you go to. Which is really the way it's traditionally done, right?

I live in Eastbridge, so I imagine I wouldn't be sent to the third school, since it's the furthest possible spot from me, and in keeping with the Green Book's commitment to walkability... I'm all for boundaries.

What do you all think?

Also, they've posted a letter from DPS Chief Operating Officer addressing the third school site -- and specifically, the concerns about that location's safety, walkability, and general adherence to the Green Book principles.

He says the 26th/Iola site is not under consideration because it's in soil contamination remediation, making it unlikely it would be ready for construction in time. Another possible 10-acre site is in Aurora, which presents a bunch of problems, and so DPS believes the 35th/Syracuse site is fine.

"DPS will evaluate other available school sites designated by Forest City, recognizing that to be viable the site needs to be available almost immediately in order to meet the schedule for opening the school in less than 2 years. If no other sites are designated by Forest City or we are not comfortable that a site meets requirements and can be available when needed, we will proceed with the current planning location at 35th and Syracuse."
