Marathon training
I've received a couple of requests for info, and since I'm inquiring around, thought I'd pass the info along.
First, the good news: If you are a regular runner and could manage a 6 or 7 mile run, you're still in contention for the Colfax Marathon or Half Marathon.
There are two official training groups for Colfax. One is Runner's Edge, and the other is Denver Galloway.
What's the difference?
Well, Jeff Galloway is a marathon runner and trainer and author who basically says, you can train better and safer with a low heart rate walk/run program. I read about it in the Wall Street Journal after my son was born and kept it on my fridge for a couple of years.
Runner's Edge, on the other hand, is a group of runners. As opposed to joggers. Running might be an individual sport, but it doesn't mean you have to train alone.
Both groups offer coaching, nutrition, equipment and gear tips. Both are running around 20 miles for their long weekend runs right now.
Check them out to see if one is right for you.
