What happened?

Our son was such a good sleeper. At just four weeks, he was sleeping six-hour stretches through the night. At two months, he pretty much slept eight-hours straight through, in his crib.

At nine months there was a relapse, and we had a couple of weeks of crying it out, but then he went back to sleeping through the night.

And now, suddenly, at 18 months, he's been waking up at 4:30. We made the mistake of getting him a bottle and bringing him into bed with us. All we wanted was another hour or so of sleep.

As soon as the nights started getting chilly, he's been waking up a couple of times in the night. Is he cold? We turned on the heat, we bought him warmer pajamas, we cover him with blankets. I think it's entrenched itself as a habit now.

Last night, he woke up every two hours. I'd get up (only Mom!), rock him, put him back in his crib, cover him with blankets.

Tonight, we promised ourselves, we're going to let him cry it out (But what if he's cold? What if he's sick?).

I've read that this is really common at that age. I can't say from personal experience, because mine never slept!
