Mommy Wars
It's the question that every mom has to answer: work or stay at home?
If you believe the media, picking one pits you in a battle against the women who chose the other route. USA Today reports that the Mommy Wars are far from over.
It's hard to have it all, you know?
We women work hard to get ahead in our careers, and then when a kid comes along, you have to choose: your kid or your career.
Of course it's much more complicated than that, and it's not necessarily one or the other, depending on what your career is. And, as the article reports. more moms are looking for -- and getting -- part time work.
On my block, there are only 3 stay at home moms. The rest all work full time -- lots of them in the health care field, notorious for long hours. One mom, a doctor, has a nanny with her kids ten hours a day.
Of us stay at home moms, one is young enough that she says she only had jobs, not a career. The other has her own business and works from home, which means she's working early morning, naptime and at midnight. I burned out of my career and waited long enough to have a kid that I'm happy to be at home. Plus, I can pick up freelance projects any time.
But there's no right or wrong way to do it. Women can be mean to each other, much more judgmental than men are.
Remember, ladies: let's be gentle with each other.
